Deleting your account and data
How to delete your JustMess account and what happens to your data.
You can delete your account yourself — from the app or the web version. There is no need to ask us.
The account is disabled immediately and the data is erased after 14 days. That window exists for two reasons: so you can change your mind, and so that the other side of an unfinished swap or an open complaint is not left without evidence. See sections 4 and 5.
If you do not need to delete the whole account, individual data can be removed on its own — see section 7, “Deleting individual data without deleting your account”.
1. How to delete it in the app
- Open Settings → Account → Devices.
- Scroll down to Delete account and tap Delete account.
- Enter your current password and the confirmation code sent to your email.
- Confirm. The account stops being available at once: the profile is hidden, listings are withdrawn and sessions on all devices end.
- After 14 days the data is erased automatically.
Close your open swaps first: confirm or cancel active deals, otherwise erasure will be postponed (section 4).
If you cannot sign in (for example, you lost access to your email), write to justapp4u@gmail.com from the address you registered with, or state your username and the circumstances — we will verify ownership and delete the account. Processing takes up to 30 days.
2. What is deleted
- profile: username, display name, email address, avatar, bio, city, date of birth, settings;
- swap listings together with their photos and comments, and saved and hidden listings;
- uploaded files and media: photos, video, voice messages, video notes, stories;
- transcripts of your voice messages and video notes;
- the encryption keys of your chats;
- subscriptions, interests, drafts, notes and shared links to them;
- Pixel Garden progress, inventory and in-app currency balance (forfeited without compensation);
- session and push notification tokens — sign-in and notifications stop immediately.
3. What remains, and why
- Messages you sent are anonymised rather than erased from your correspondents’ chats: the text and attachments are deleted and the sender is cleared, leaving only the fact that a message existed — otherwise the other side’s chat history would fall apart.
- Records of completed swaps — in anonymised form, to protect the other party and resolve disputes.
- Reviews you left about other people, and the ratings you received — in anonymised form: the other party’s rating rests on them, and deleting a review after the fact would rewrite someone else’s reputation.
- Records of violations and blocks — for up to 3 years, to prevent evasion of restrictions.
- A record of the deletion itself (username, date, hash of the email address) — so that a re-registering offender can be recognised.
- Data we must retain by law — for the statutory period.
- Technical logs and backups — deleted automatically within 30 days.
4. When erasure is postponed
If, when the 14 days are up, you still have unsettled obligations towards other users, the data is not erased — the request goes to our support team instead. That happens if:
- there is an active deal or a listing with JUST held in escrow;
- a dispute or complaint about a swap is open — filed by you or against you;
- there is an unresolved report about you;
- a block or restriction is in force on the account.
The account stays disabled meanwhile. The data is erased as soon as the matter is closed. Such a hold is expressly permitted by Art. 17(3) GDPR and by Russian law: it protects the other party’s rights, allows claims to be examined, and stops account deletion from being used to cover the tracks of fraud.
If a hold seems to be dragging on, write to justapp4u@gmail.com.
5. Changing your mind
Within the 14 days, simply sign in with your old password — the deletion is cancelled automatically and your data and chats stay put. Withdrawn listings will have to be published again.
Once the window has passed and the data is erased, recovery is impossible.
6. If you would rather not delete
- withdraw your listings — in your own swaps section;
- turn off notifications — Settings → Notifications;
- hide profile details — Settings → Account → privacy;
- simply sign out on the device — your data is kept.
Once the data has actually been erased, the account cannot be restored and the data cannot be recovered. The username stays taken, so that nobody can impersonate you.
7. Deleting individual data without deleting your account
You can keep the account and remove only what you want. All of the following works in the app and in the web version:
- A listing — the listing’s menu → “Delete”. A listing with JUST in escrow must first be withdrawn from the swap: the frozen amount returns to your balance.
- A message — press and hold it, then “Delete”. In private chats you can also delete it for the other person.
- A whole conversation — press and hold the chat in the list → “Delete chat”.
- A story, a profile wall entry or a note — the item’s own menu → “Delete”.
- Uploaded photos and videos — removed together with the message, listing or publication they were sent in.
- Avatar and profile bio — Settings → Account.
- City — Settings → Account: you can change or clear it, and the feed will stop filtering listings by it.
- Interests that shape your feed — Settings → Interests → “Clear all”. They do not affect advertising: it is not selected by profile.
- Devices and sessions — Settings → Account → Devices: ending a session deletes its data and its notification token.
A review you left cannot be deleted — it can only be replaced by a new review of the same person: the other party’s rating rests on the history of ratings. If a review about you breaks the rules, report it and a moderator will look into it.
If what you need is not in the interface, or you have lost access to the app, write to justapp4u@gmail.com from the address registered to the account and list the data to delete. We reply within 30 days. Some records must be retained even after such a request — they are listed in section 3.
